Amethyst forms when silica-rich, mineral-rich fluids, often originating from volcanic activity, fill cavities in rock. These fluids contain iron impurities, which are essential for the color. Natural radiation then interacts with the iron-infused quartz, causing the purple color to develop over millions of years as the crystals slowly form and cool.
