This fossilized tooth is from a macroraptorial whale of the sperm whale superfamily. All species of this whale were likely apex predators, similar to modern day killer whales, and highly predatory. It is believed these animals may have evolved specifically to prey on baleen whales.

Lived during the Miocene Epoch, with the most recent discovered macroraptorial tooth dating to around 5 mya (Pliocene).

Found in South Carolina.
