Agate and quartz form together when mineral-rich fluids fill cavities in rocks, leading to a combination of banded agate and crystalline quartz. The agate forms as a cryptocrystalline quartz (chalcedony) banding on the cavity walls, while the center fills with coarser, visible quartz crystals, often with one type forming after the other.
The golden lining is from electroplating, a process of coating a conductive object with a thin layer of metal using electrolysis.
