Also called "Mother of Pearl", abalone shell is a highly sought after material for watches, jewelry, and decor. Abalone refers to several different species of sea mollusk from the Haliotidae family that can be found all over the world. Earliest archaeological evidence suggests abalone shells were being used as tools and decorations at least 12,000 years ago along the California coast.
