This type of chalcedony, a microcrystalline form of quartz, forms in volcanic rock through a process that takes millions of years. First, lava flows interact with seawater, creating voids between lava pillows. Mineral-rich fluids seep into the voids, depositing silica. The silica builds up in layers, forming tiny, round aggregates of chalcedony, a process called botryoidal growth. Trace minerals in the silica solutions give grape agate its color, for example, in this piece manganese gives it a purple hue.
Grape agate shields from negative energy and it creates a sense of security, especially in times of emotional stress. It allows connection to spirituality and inspires communication with the positive energy of the earth. Grape agate emanates warm protective energy that guards the mind and emotions.
