Amazonite is formed from the slow cooling of potassium-rich magma deep within the Earth's crust, specifically in granitic pegmatites. This process allows for the creation of large crystals of microcline feldspar (KAlSi₃O₈), which is the mineral form of amazonite. Its blue-green color comes from trace amounts of lead and water within the mineral structure.
