This is a Chrysocolla on Quartz from the Tentadora Mine in Peru. Chrysocolla is a cooper mineral that will frequently grow alongside azurite and malachite. They will sometimes “pseudomorph” each other, meaning one stone will take over or replace the other stone. This mine is particularly well known for it’s distinct and isolated chrysocolla nodules that are hind to find most other places.
This particular piece was the gemmiest of our batch. Most of the piece looks like it is almost gem silica (a rare combo of chrysocolla and quartz/chalcedony). Very nice luster on this piece. You can see the pure copper that the crysocolla formed from throughout the piece. There is one thicker band of copper on the back with some pretty, slightly purple, oxidations There are some very distinct chrysocolla nodules on that strip of copper as well that showcase what this mine is famous for.
This piece measures approximately 8.4 x 4.9 x 4.3cm and comes with a display card listing the mineral name and locale.
