This sauropod lived in what is now the United States during the Late Jurassic period, 155 to 145 million years ago. This herbivore
fed mainly on tough, fibrous plant material like conifers, ferns, and ginkgoes, using robust, spoon-shaped teeth to strip leaves from trees and shrubs. They likely swallowed stones (gastroliths) to help digest these tough plants.
The large claw seen here was likely primarily used for defense against predators, ripping bark, or digging, such as for nesting or foraging for food. These dinosaurs measured roughly 50–75 feet (15–23 meters) in length, standing 15–25 feet (4.5–7.6 meters) tall, and weighing between 20 and 50 tons.
