This is a thumbnail specimen of red zircon from Mashewa, Tanga Region, Tanzania. Zircon is the crystallized form of zirconium silicate, or a combination of zircon, silica, and oxygen. This specimen is a deep saturated red, with a well-formed termination and glassy faces. This is a classic example of zircon from this locale, and would be a great addition to any collection.
