This is a thumbnail specimen of fibrous malachite from Kolwezi, Katanga Province, Democratic Republic of Congo. Malachite is known to have many growth patterns, and this fibrous malachite consists of radiating malachite crystals in a sprouting formation. This creates a unique chatoyant effect, where the light reflects off the tiny individual crystals and creates a holographic effect. This specimen has a deep green hue, and several "holes" due to the formation visible from different angles.
