This is a thumbnail specimen of pink apatite from La Marina Mine, Boyaca, Colombia. Apatite is a relatively common mineral that is composed of calcium phosphate with fluorine, chlorine and several other elements. Apatite is one of the very few minerals that is produced and used by organic biological systems. Hydroxyapatite is the major component of tooth enamel and bone minerals. It is sometimes used as a gemstone, and it can occur in a wide variety of colors.

This specimen has a very unique, almost digital growth pattern, with a vitreous luster and a beautiful bright pink color. This color of pink is very desirable in apatite, and many of the best pink apatite specimens come from this mine. This is a very large, very unique specimen that would be a fantastic addition to any collection!
