Amethyst Scepter Thumbnail Specimen from Toamasina Province, Madagascar

This is a thumbnail specimen of an amethyst scepter from Ambatondrazaka, Toamasina Province, Madagascar. This specimen has minor damage to the termination, but has a beautiful scepter form with visible growth patterns and is otherwise damage-free. Amethyst is a form of quartz that gets its color from naturally irradiated iron ions, and has been a valued gem for decoration and collection since prehistoric times. Scepter specimens occur when a change in the growth habit happens during the crystal's formation.

This specimen is approximately 2.6cm x 1.8cm x 1cm. You will also receive a complementary 'perky' display box and a card with the mineral name and the locale where it was mined.
