Fossil Cave Bear Skull from Romania

Regular price $16,500.00

This is a fossilized skull of a cave bear, or Ursus spelaeus, unearthed in Romania. Cave bears lived during the Pleistocene Epoch, which was the time between 2.6 million and 11,700 years ago. They went extinct around 24,000 years ago and were nearly twice the size of modern grizzly bears. Scientists speculate that humans worshipped the cave bear, as a skull like this one was found as the centerpiece of an altar in a cave.

This specimen is in great condition, with all of its teeth nearly intact and very little restoration.

This specimen is approximately 19" x 10" x 10". You will also receive a label card with the fossil name, the time period it lived, and the locale where it was found.
