This is a thumbnail specimen of black tourmaline, known as schorl, from the Erongo Mountains, Erongo Region, Namibia. Schorl is unique because, unlike other tourmaline varieties, it is never transparent. The name had been around since before the 1400s, coming from the original name of a town in Germany where it was mined - this town is now known as 'Zchorlau'. This specimen has a good lustre and a very well-defined termination, and the sides have interesting aesthetic growth patterns.

This specimen is approximately 1.5cm x 1.75cm x 1.5cm. You will also receive a complimentary 'perky' display box and a label card with the mineral name and the locale where it was mined.
