This is a fossilized crab, scientifically named Xanthopsis dufouri, originally unearthed in northern Spain. This crab dates from the Eocene epoch, somewhere from 56 to 339 million years ago. It has been painstakingly carved out from the surrounding matrix rock in fantastic detail - it sits upon a piece of the rock it was carved from in a very life-like, aesthetic pose. Fossilized crab specimens with this level of detail are quite rare, making this a unique piece to add to any collection!
This specimen is approximately 4" x 3" x 1.5", and with the matrix rock it is 6" x 4" x 3.5". You will also receive a label card with the species name, the age it lived, and the locale where it was found.
