This is a fossilized cave bear paw, scientifically named Ursus spelaeus, unearthed in Romania. Cave bear are now extinct, having existed during the Pleistocene epoch which began around 2.6 million years ago. They are thought to have become extinct around 24,000 years ago, so this fossil dates sometime before then. All the bones have been attached together so that it sits as a single, large specimen, and the fossil surface features fantastic bone detail. A fantastic centerpiece for a fossil collection!
