This tourmaline thumbnail specimen comes from the Coronel Murta Mine, Minas Gerais, Brazil. It features a partial termination, deep green color, and some Quartz growth present. Tourmaline is a boron silicate mineral that appears in a variety of different colors due to elements that are present during the formation of the crystal, such as lithium, iron, or chromium. Tourmaline's color can be influenced by man with irradiation or heat treatment, but this specimen is completely natural.
