This locale is known for very distinct amethyst scepter specimens, with translucent light purple terminated tips and opaque white quartz bodies. Amethyst is a form of quartz that gets its color from naturally irradiated iron ions, and has been a valued gem for decoration and collection since prehistoric times. Scepter specimens occur when a change in the growth habit happens during the crystal's formation.
