This is a thumbnail specimen of globular smithsonite from Kelly Mine, Magdalena Socorro Co., New Mexico Smithsonite is a zinc-carbonate mineral, and the variation in color is caused by the zinc being partially replaced by other elements, such as cobalt or copper. This specimen has a bright light blue/turquoise variation, known from this world renowned mine, as well a wonderful botryoidal structure.  It has a luster that fluctuates from matte to shiny in certain areas.

This specimen is approximately 2.75cm x 2cm x 1.5cm. You will also receive a free "perky" display box as well label card with the mineral name and the locale where it was mined.
