This is a pair of Sterling Silver Black Onyx Earrings. These earrings have a small circle cabochon of black onyx that has been set in sterling silver with a simple, yet elegant design. Onyx is a chalcedony variety, a member of the Quartz family, with a hardness of 7. It has a hexagonal (trigonal) crystal system with parallel banding (i.e. banded Chalcedony). In black onyx, the bands are usually not visible due to how dark the chalcedony is, but can sometimes be seen by shining a light through the stone.
